Loka is a travel studio that designs small-group journeys led by people who've spent their lives obsessed with one thing, a chef, a forager, a marine biologist, a master craftsman. The name is Sanskrit for "the world as you perceive it." We build trips that change how you see a place, not just what you saw there.
Every Loka journey has an author. A mycologist who knows every fruiting body in a forest. A surfer who has read one point break for thirty seasons. A historian who can walk you through a city as if it were 1640. The journey is theirs. We make it possible for you to step inside it.
Accommodations, all meals, ground transport during the journey, every experience and access fee, gratuities for hosts and local staff, and a pre-trip kit including a custom field journal. International flights to and from the start point are not included.
People who've already done the standard luxury trip and want something with more substance. Curious travelers, repeat clients of brands like Black Tomato or Pelorus, founders and creatives looking for a real reset, and anyone who reads more than they Instagram. You don't need to be an expert in the topic, you just need to be interested.
It varies by journey, and we publish a clear activity rating for each one, from "long meals and short walks" to "multi-day hikes with elevation." If you can walk comfortably for a few hours, most of our journeys are accessible. We'll tell you upfront if a trip requires real fitness.
Why these Three things drive the cost: we pay our authors multiples of standard guide rates because the people we work with don't need the work; groups are six to twelve, so fixed costs split fewer ways; and we don't mark up lodging, we pick what's right for the journey, even when that's a farmhouse over a five-star. Deposits are refundable up to 120 days before departure, minus a small admin fee. Inside 120 days, terms shift on a sliding scale published on each journey page. We strongly recommend travel insurance and can point you to providers we trust.
Yes. Private journeys start at six guests and are built from scratch around your group, your interests, and a host we match to you. Lead time is usually 4–6 months. Get in touch and we'll send you our private journey brief.
